Why Kisspeptin?
Kisspeptin is one of the body's most important reproductive signalling peptides, acting as the master regulator of the hormonal cascade responsible for fertility and natural sex hormone production.
By activating the KISS1R (GPR54) receptor within the hypothalamus, Kisspeptin initiates the release of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH). This stimulates the pituitary gland to release Luteinising Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), driving downstream reproductive hormone signalling.
Because of this central role, Kisspeptin has become a significant focus of research into fertility, endocrine health and hypothalamic function.
Key Research Areas
? HPG Axis Activation – Investigated for stimulating the body's natural reproductive hormone signalling pathway.
? LH & FSH Release – Supports research into pituitary hormone secretion following GnRH activation.
⚡ Hormonal Regulation – Studied for its potential role in restoring normal reproductive hormone signalling.
❤️ Male & Female Fertility Research – Investigated for applications involving fertility, ovulation and reproductive function.
? Hypothalamic Function – Explored for its role in coordinating communication between the brain and reproductive organs.
⚖️ Energy & Reproduction – Research suggests kisspeptin neurons help integrate nutritional status and metabolic signals with reproductive hormone regulation.
Mechanism of Action
Kisspeptin binds to the KISS1R (GPR54) receptor located on hypothalamic GnRH neurons. Activation of this receptor initiates intracellular signalling pathways that trigger pulsatile GnRH release.
GnRH subsequently stimulates the anterior pituitary to secrete LH and FSH, promoting downstream gonadal hormone production and supporting normal reproductive signalling.
Areas of Ongoing Research
